Step Back in Time at Long’s Lane: Guided Tours Coming!

Discover the captivating history of Sydney’s Long’s Lane precinct in The Rocks with a guided tour that brings the 19th century to life. This rare historic gem, a collection of 18 terrace residences built between 1857 and 1915, reveals the charm and challenges of urban life in colonial Sydney.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with Museums of History NSW to deliver these tours as part of their renowned Sydney Open monthly program, which showcases the best of the built environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to wander the laneways of Cumberland and Gloucester Streets, where still visible sandstone flagstones and original laneway alignments whisper stories of the past.

Some properties in the precinct hold hidden gems—step inside the Old Butcher’s Shop, where a cellar is accessible through the lounge room floorboards, or visit the old ‘lolly shop,’ featuring a special window once used to serve eager customers their sweet treats. Archaeological remnants of even earlier buildings add more layers to this fascinating site.

Led by an experienced tour guide, this 60–90-minute tour offers an intimate look at the architecture, residents, and stories that shaped the area. Afterwards, join a curator for drinks and conversation to uncover even more of its secrets.

Don’t miss your chance to step into Sydney’s storied past!
